OUR HISTORY AND OUR FUTURE

The rich history of Sacred Heart dates back to sometime around 1852/1853, when the four acres of land that our Parish sits on were willed by Lancaster resident William Phelan, to the Diocese of Cincinnati. Columbus was, at that time part of that Diocese. Years later, in 1875, Bishop Rosecrans ordered the start of a new parish, and authorized construction of a school building, with a hall large enough to be used as a church, and rooms to accommodate the Sisters who were to teach. 139 years later, Sacred Heart ministers to our Columbus neighborhoods, and is host to our friends at St. Joseph Montessori School.
